Pentecost Sunday

Monday, June 05, 2006

It was Pentecost Sunday yesterday. 4 June 2006 to be exact.

And what a day it was!

The youths led worship during service, and to put it aptly, it was "Rockin!". I like =) Even though most of the songs were really new to me, I was too pumped up to even be bothered that I couldn't sing tunefully. The mood was infectious. Beyond the dancing lights and pulsating amps, I saw how the youths worshipped, and I myself was moved to worship him, without reserve!

Ps Yang from Cornerstone was our guest speaker. If there's one thing that I brought away with me from the candid yet impactful message, was the call for spiritual hunger. He shared testimonies of various men and women of God who perserved in hungering after God, and how God inclined his ear towards them and answered the cry of their hearts. God wants us to be hungry, desperate enough for Him, to know that we long nothing more than to be soaked in His presence, so that He may respond to us, to let us know that He is listening and longing for us, with much more intensity than we can ever long for Him!

I knelt at the altar, at the feet of Him, and did something I'd been wanting to do for a long time. I cried out to Him. I felt desperate and I know that I'm not contented with where I am right now, and I desperately wanted more of Him. It was my moment of initmacy with Him.

(insert afternoon activities at Plaza Singapura, visiting Sharon Tang and chillin' at TCC)

We then headed to the National Stadium for the Global Day of Prayer, where 160 nations of the world unite to pray with one heart and one purpose!

Hoping to get good seats, we got there about one hour earlier at 6.30pm, and it didn't look as packed as i thought it would be. But as time ticked by, the stadium filled up steadily, and by the time we had worshipped and sung a few songs, I noticed that the stadium was already packed, even Bonny had to give up the seats that she wanted to reserve for friends.

Glancing around the semi-circled-filled stadium, I caught a itsy bitsy glimpse of what it must be like in Heaven.

There was a part where Rev Rick Seaward who represented the Pentecostal Charismatics stepped out and publicly apologized to the chairman of the Evangelical Conservatives, and vice versa. More than just words, they did something which was really symbolic. They washed each other's feet, imitating the very act that Jesus did for his disciples while on earth.

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet (John 13:14)

It was a humbling act, and it sent out a ripple effect to the crowds who were watching on, when they cheered and applauded as both men sought each other's forgiveness. I was reminded at how I saw others through my pride-tinted lens with the superiority that my brand of worship/talk/knowledge outweigh anyone else's who thinks differently. Help me to see like You do Lord.

The young people ran out into the fields raising the flags of the various countries that we were all praying for. That momet just stirred my insides. For once, I saw beyond my 5th floor - auditorium - vision, and saw a glimpse of the magnititude of the kingdom of God. I couldn't help but be moved that my God is a God of ALL nations, and I felt a fraction of what it must be to care for every nation. Lord, let the key verse of GDOP be fulfilled;

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
Habbakkuk 2:14

We sat right up the front despite warnings that we will get wet, but we were just glad to find a seat (the sign said full-house) to take the warning seriously. And boy, did we get wet towards the end! those big wet droplets.

of Baptism and Fun

Monday, May 01, 2006

On Sunday, was the Dip of Life! The whole church went to Big Splash and held a Baptism service right there, at the function room and in the pool where the baptism candidates were dipped in.

my dear Elizabeth got baptized!

or go here if you can't play the above video.

And what a milestone too. To think that 3 years ago, she had come for the same baptism service, to witness Koko's baptism, and who would've thought (okay, maybe God did), that she herself would get dipped in the same fashion! Her journey is really amazing and I'm glad that I got to celebrate this very symbolic event in her life, with her and the rest of the church!

The weather was fabulous! Okay, scorching if I might be honest. I had a baptism-day tan on my shoulders already. But it was also perfect for such a day like yesterday. And for lots of photo opportunities, nice and bright!

After the service, Charmaine and I met our friends to blade along East Coast, since we're already there. And even though it was just the 4 of us, it was a fruitful time. Charmaine's friend CW came and I met him for the first time. My friend AL didn't know how to blade, and even though I'd "promised" to teach him how too, CW was the patient one who guided and kept by his side the whole time. And they'd only met that day.

Unfortunately, there're no pictures of the blading session because I was afraid to carry my camera while I bladed, lest I fall and crush it.

It was a mad rush after I took off my blades, as we got a ride from CW home, and then washing off a day's grime and changing into my dinner clothes, for a night out with the girls and some friends.

Dinner was at the Baccarat Restaurant, situated along Bras Basah road at Plaza by The Park, for those who are like me, who hasn't heard of Plaza by The Park, it's actually the building beside Hotel Rendezvous, with the big neon-lit Kopitiam foodcourt on the first floor.

It was a spread at the Baccarat's buffet dinner! My tummy was growling, since I'd only nibbled during lunch admist making conversations , and blading had already burned away whatever fats there were. It was food, glorious food. Sashimi, oysters, herbal soups, and even rojak! were a just a few of the delicacies laid out. I savoured the freshness of the sashimi and went for seconds and thirds. I couldn't help myself. And choco fondue, again!

It was a nice time, as I got to know ZM, Koko's boyfriend much better too. Since he was seated right opposite me, and also got to know Jacq, Caleb's girlfriend a lot more too. We spent a good 2 hours just eating, sharing stories and jokes across the table. Caleb and Bonny were seated quite close to one another, right at the other end. And their laughter reverberated across the table, and I'd laugh along, now knowing what the joke is about, but because it's just impossible not to be infected by their hearty laughters.

After the sumptuous meal. We proceeded to The Coffee Connoisseur at Hotel Rendezvous, to chill. Again, I was seated in the same position, at the end of the table, and across ZAN, so I really got to know him a lot better that night. And I also developed developed a little "waist sour", an ache of the waist, from having to turn to the rest of the table to listen to them.

We talked. laughed. talked. laughed.talked.

Then, we decided to take more pictures. Someone came up with the idea to do spontaneous shots, the kind that leaves you little time to pose nice nice. So we tried a few shots in the restaurant, to the stares of the other patrons. We all agreed to take the "photo shoot" outside, where it wasn't so crowded, as it was already past midnight. That was really really fun.

I'm glad that Jacq enjoyed herself even though it was the first time she's meeting with us in such a setting, and poor girl, she was "forced" to participate in our whacked out shots, but she was so game!

When it all ended, we spent a good half-hour and maybe slightly more, just trying to get a cab home. In Singapore, always wait at the taxi stands.

Therapy-ed

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

These few days feels like hibernation in a cold season. I haven't been out of the house for the past 2 days, and what a bliss! Put me with a group of people and i'll still enjoy myself, but at the end of the day, it's my comfort zone to be by myself with my own thoughts. I'm an introvert, or you can call me a situational extrovert. Anyways, back to my topic.

What better time to give myself some home therapy, yes, right in my humble abode.

Housekeeping Therapy!

I finally took the courage to venture into the recesses of chaos.

The Formidable Wardrobe.

Many years ago, when i got to choose a new wardrobe, i happily flipped through Ikea's catalogue and picked out a wardrobe. It's got the "cool" factor, with something like a wire mesh for the door. But for every up, there is a down. Practicality was compromised. The lack of foresight did not calculate the amount of clothes I'd accumulate over the years. And very often, my wardrobe is still looking cool, on the outside, but when you open the doors, I'd be surprised if you don't suffer a stroke when the clothes come tumbling down on you.

Here is the BEFORE situation,

Very scary.

Yes, even I was shocked.

So when i tell you i'm an organized person, i'm probably lying half the time. But something must be done, and soon! It was time for Mission Tidy-Up.

A surge of energy shot through me as i dug my hands into the rumpled pile of clothes, i could smell a new beginning coming on. I even plugged the iron right in my room, so that i can iron and fold my clothes at the same time. To jive things up, i put in a few CDs and i worked away!

Heigh-ho Heigh-ho!

After awhile, there was progress! From topsy-turvydom to i-forgot-i-had-this-ness! However, things started to get a little mundane. My neck was aching from looking down for so long (urm, i did say clothes accumulated over the years). The only place of respite is, of course, the kitchen.

Time for my chocolate fix!

(to spare you the boredom, insert many hours of ironing, folding, ironing, folding, ironing, folding, chocolates, ironing, folding, ironing, folding etc)

And then, the hour had finally come! After ploughing the deep, and throwing out a few old socks, and white-tees-gone-mouldy, my wardobe can finally breathe, if it had a heart, it would be pounding healthily, and thanking me for unclogging it's arteries.

the result?

SO.MUCH.SPACE.

It was celebration time, with the man himself..... Spongebob!

happy happy joy joy!

It's not really the end of MTU, i look around and i see another small pile of clothes, which i had picked out and set aside, to be ironed and hung up. But that's sup-sup-siu (easypeasy) compared to what has already been conquered.

Now, instead of picking out clothes from the top pile and wearing the same outfits over and over again, i finally have choice! To start off, i changed into a clean set of pajamas, and i was so impressed that i could quickly scan and pick out what i wanted immediately. (i do change my pajamas very often by the way)

I feel so darn pleased.
